"Coming to Grips with the Sword" with Tony Wolf
Coming to Grips with the Sword is an intensive exploration of the halbschwert (half-sword) style of fighting with the medieval hand-and-a-half sword. Participants will learn how to adapt historical close-combat swordplay techniques, including disarms, locks, throws and other in-fighting methods, for safe, realistic and exciting theatrical performance.
Note: please bring sturdy gloves for this class.
(Leather gardening gloves will do nicely) |
The instructor:
A veteran of the martial and performing arts, Tony Wolf has worked as a martial arts instructor, professional wrestler and fight director/stunt co-ordinator. Between 1988 - 1994 he developed his original Wolf System of performance/combat exercises, which has beentaught to actors, martial artists, stunt performers and fight directors throughout the world. |
| Tony's fight direction and action design have been featured in over two hundred feature film, television, theatre, opera and ballet productions. Between 1998-2000 he served as the Fighting Styles Designer for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy and in 2002 hetoured Japan performing fights for the Washington National Opera's production of Otello, starring Plácido Domingo. |
Tony regularly teaches a range of master-classes and seminars for martial arts associations, universities, stunt teams, acting academies and performance conferences throughout New Zealand, Australia, the USA, Canada and Europe.
