The British Academy of Stage & Screen Combat was founded in 1993 with the aims of improving the standards of safety, quality and training of stage combat and promoting a unified code of practice for the training, teaching and assessing of stage combat within the United Kingdom. I can't say enough good things about Richard Ryan, the organization's president.

Brothersmith-Swords has a collection of historical replica guns, swords, shields and armor that shows the skill needed by the craftsmen who developed these beautiful and functional historical weapons. Since 1998, their mission is to offer people ancient and medieval swords, Bowie knives, fencing foils and historical replica guns and armor at affordable prices.

The Bullwhip Home Page has quite a bit of very handy info, including the comprehensive Bullwhip FAQ, which offers everything from quick time movies showing the various cracks, to tips on building and maintenance of your own whip.

Classical Fencing With the motto of "In Ferro Veritas", this group is dedicated to preserving and promoting in classical fencing and historical swordplay, the true art, science and spirit of the sword. They are teaching classical sword as a martial art, so they are not stage combat per se, although the underlying lessons should have much in common with one another! They have a fantastic collection of Articles, and the female gender is well represented on their page. Two thumbs up!

InYo: The Journal of Alternative Perspectives on the Martial Arts and Sciences is an online journal with a small but interesting, well-researched and well-cited collection of articles on martial arts and women.

The Knife Outlet A supplier for swords, knives, cutlery and lots of other useful things. Not strictly a stage combat supplier, they have a mix of sharps, dull blades and blades made primarily for display. Which it is should be marked on the page with the weapon.

About Face is an organization that monitors the presentation of women in advertising, and offers a "Wall of Shame" where submissions from the public highlight the most objectifying and subersive images of women put out there in the name of selling product. They offer the contact information for the ad agencies responsible so that you can make your feelings known. Also has a "Wall of Fame" for the good ones. Highly recommended.

All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, 1943-1954. This web site is dedicated to the women who played professional baseball in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1943 to 1954.

Amazon International is a comprehensive and fantastic links page to all things Amazon, from movies and t.v. shows to articles on their historic presence and their psychological archetype. The Valkyries.com: Although their focus is different from ours, a very strong site with many illustrations and photos, and lots of good info about women's bodybuilding as a competitive sport and a hobby. An excerpt from their page defines the Valkyrie as "...the Physically-Advanced Woman, representing an absolute which society, ever male-dominated, cannot accept. Women in Military action. To this page, I can only say "AMEN!"

Mrs. Pamela Prewitt, an evaluator at the U.S. Army Armour School, Fort Knox, Kentucky, served as a participant in the Topical Research Intern Program at the Defence Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI) in June 1995. She prepared a report on Women in the Military which is reproduced in it's entirety on this page. Full of wonderful historical tidbits and a good bibliography at the end.
