· How are the submissions
judged?
The JS&P Coordinator removes all identifying information from the scripts upon receipt in order to keep the selection process completely blind. Each member of BWB reads all the submissions and rates them on a scale of 1-10. The Coordinator compiles and averages the ratings, identifying the 5 highest-rated scripts. All 5 are read aloud and discussed at a special meeting called for the purpose. BWB’s Artistic Director makes the final selection, after which the Coordinator provides the author’s name and contact information.
· Will any of the submissions
be made available to the public?
We’d love, love, love to publish an anthology – we’ll self-publish if we have to, but it would be nice to let the pros handle such things. Know any publishers?
· Do you accept submissions
from men?
Absolutely.
· Do you cast men?
The Mission of our theatre company is to provide opportunities
to women in the field of stage combat, as there are so few
opportunities out there. We highly value our relationships
with the many talented and supportive men who've crossed
our path, and we do not rule out mixed gender projects entirely,
as stated in the contest requirements. In fact, the production of the winning script of the second contest was our first production to include men in the cast. We don't cast men in our all-female productions of Shakespeare, but there's a whole philosophy behind that policy that has nothing to do with the JS&P competition.
