CLIFFHANGERS
Conceived
by Michele DiMaso* - Directed by Alison Dornheggen*October - November 2005
Presented
as a series of clips from an Entertainment Tonight-style
media event, the 12 original scenes lovingly skewered comedy,
drama, horror, and more. Along with the Babes' trademark
no-hold-barred brawls, the show offered a tongue-in-cheek
commentary on the fighting (and non-fighting) roles available
to women in theater and film today. No cliché went
unchallenged - no genre was safe!
Critics
said:
Babes With Blades "always lives up to its daring
(and dangerous) name, and the humorous vignettes in this
show are no exception. Consider this your fair warning:
Battle tools range from swords to high-heeled shoes."
"Long before Buffy became a cult phenomenon, Dawn "Sam"
Alden and her crew of merry women in Babes With Blades were
wielding steel, throwing punches and kicking derrieres,
proving that female fight choreography is hot, sweaty fun
equal to anything dished out by guys."
"...hilarious inventiveness..."
- and -
"..it's refreshing to see real women behind the
weaponry, up close and personal."
